Was followed today by a person today on Twitter, Secret Freegan. I had heard of the lifestyle before when I was researching being vegan back in the spring.  Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources. It really is a fascinating lifestyle.

Ginger Freebird collects food from dumpsters at grocery stores to feed the homeless in this podcast from Nature Moms Blog she talks about how she goes about her donations.

I blogged about this today because I think its important when living your life to keep it simple. I  am working to not encourage purchasing excess items to make a meal, or tons of decorative things from crazy stores on my blog. As we are moving further and further into this economic downturn I think we need to stop and take a look at what we are purchasing and why we are purchasing. I am becoming more and more conscious of this everyday.

  1. Hi, Just had to comment on your freegans blog. I too checked out this site and found it so valuable and compelling. It does make you rethink so many areas that are socially taboo (and causes me to wonder…why are they?!). The wonderful thing is how he donates…there are those who would take what they need and leave the rest…he goes to the trouble of gathering and distributing to shelters on a regular basis.
So good to see it highlighted on your blog!
    Warmly,
    Tracey
